I LIKE THAT POEM, DON’T YOU? IT WAS WRITTEN BY MY MOTHER. Such precious memories of her and my Dad. They have been gone fourteen years? How many years have your parents been "gone"? If they are still living, enjoy them--enjoy their idiosyncrasies, their upsetting statements, their bossiness, their gracious giving, their food, their gifts, their unexpected visits. Enjoy them! Some day those persons will be gone from your arms and you’ll be sorry you were sharp and uncaring. Sometimes, it is true, parents can be overbearing with their adult children. They can be disapproving of your parenting or financial managing; but they have this concern because they love you. Why not set aside a day to be with them? Perhaps they live close to you and you can’t get away from them. Maybe they live far away and when they visit, they overstay their welcome. Or maybe they never come at all. I guess there never is a happy medium! I wonder why?

WE STARTED JUNE WITH THE FLORIDA GRADUATION OF OUR GRANDDAUGHTER FROM HIGH SCHOOL. I wrote about it and you all were interested. Surprisingly enough, I received many comments on that trip review. One writer said that she and her husband in their teenage years lived in FERNANDINA and played in FORT CLINCH, enjoying AMELIA ISLAND every day as "home town." Another girl said that her father was stationed at the submarine base I wrote about. Others liked the flow of the narrative. Funny! I mostly wrote that part of the JULY/AUGUST/2002 UPDATE for my own amusement. If you remember, we ended the month of June with a KING JAMES BIBLE SEMINAR #8 at the PEMBINA VALLEY BAPTIST CHURCH in Winkler, Manitoba, Canada--two hours from Winnipeg. It was good to be with PASTOR & MRS. SULLIVANT. They were dedicated people!

JULY WAS FULL OF PLANNING AND ATTENDING THE DEAN BURGON SOCIETY’S TWENTY-FOURTH ANNUAL MEETING IN ARDEN, NORTH CAROLINA, at the Grace Fellowship Baptist Church on Long Shoals Road. If you have never been to one of those meetings, you’ve missed a treat. Why not look on the DBS WEBSITE for all the particulars as well as the listing of speakers. (www.DeanBurgonSociety.org)!! The Dean Burgon Society is a one-issue group which defends the traditional Bible texts of Scripture. Those traditional texts are the Textus Receptus Greek Text and the Masoretic Hebrew Text, as well as the few Aramaic portions in the Old Testament. NEXT YEAR THE SOCIETY HAS BEEN INVITED TO THE EMMANUEL

BAPTIST CHURCH IN NEWINGTON, CT. The dates for next year are July 23-24, 2003. That’s the church that has the new Emmanuel Baptist Theological Seminary within its walls. PASTOR MICHAEL BATES is the shepherd of that assembly and President of the Seminary. DR. THOMAS STROUSE is the Seminary Dean. For this year’s meeting, we have most of the messages on video and audio for your ordering. Call our BFT office and decide (856-854-4452). You definitely should order DR. STROUSE’s message on PRESERVATION OF THE WORDS as well as DR. D. A. WAITE’s message THE FUNDAMENTALISTS’ CONTINENTAL DIVIDE. I don’t want to take up room in this UPDATE to mention every speaker but I think you should hear DR. DAVID BROWN’s message on WHICH TEXT? as well as REV. DAVID HOLLOWOOD’s TEXTUAL PLURALISM--POISON IN THE POT. I told him that he should put that in a pamphlet form. DR. H. D. WILLIAMS, M.D. from Georgia was a new face at the meetings. He has written a book called The Lie That Changed the Modern World which should be available in a few months. Of course, I enjoy the humor of DR. EDWARD E. DeWITT from Illinois. One has to listen carefully to catch it all. Some were not able to be with us--we missed them!--but others we didn’t expect were there. One of the surprise attenders was DR. BRUCE CUMMONS and his wife. Attending the DBS was all he wanted for his seventy-eighth birthday! My husband asked him to speak in the absence of another who couldn’t be there. What a gripping sermon! You’ll have to get it. Now, if you want any of these tapes or all of them, remember that one audio tape is $4.00 + $2.00 S&H [all 8 tapes for $24.00 + $4.00 S&H]; and the video tapes are $35.00 + $5.00 S&H for three six-hour videos. Get them. It will give you something to do on a cold winter’s night! I don’t know if you have noticed, but the BFT has not raised it’s prices on audio or video tapes for years.

THE DEAN BURGON WOMEN

ANOTHER EXCITEMENT FOR JULY WAS THE VISIT OF MRS. TIANGAY JOAH FROM LIBERIA, WEST AFRICA. She arrived in the States a week or so before the Dean Burgon Society’s meeting. She came with us to North Carolina to be one of the speakers at the DEAN BURGON WOMEN. Every year, interested women meet together in the main auditorium of the churches where we are. I am pleased with the attendance as I remember, when we first started, many of the women would rather go shopping than be together. I never understood this, as I thought all of the wives backed their husband’s stand on the KJB and should show support for the cause. I personally think that’s part of a wife’s job to become aware of what her husband is interested in when it comes to Biblical defense, and to be by his side at various meetings when possible. But who am I?

MRS. JOAH IN HER AFRICAN DRESS WAS BEAUTIFUL AND IMPRESSIVE. She spoke of the need for education for the African women, as well as the men, so they could read the Authorized version of the Bible which they, with her husband PASTOR SOLOMON JOAH, and she defend. She comes from a culture different from ours where there has been war and threat of war for years. Now a similiar threat has come to us, too. It was good to have her be a part of our meeting--a once in a life-time treat!.

MRS. SHEILA DOOM WAS EXCELLENT IN HER BURDEN FOR US TO BE INTERESTED IN "WORDS" AND WHAT THEY REALLY MEAN. She encouraged us to get an older dictionary and look up the words we read in our King James Bibles and understand the full scope of why the translators chose those particular words. Besides Mrs. Doom, the pastor’s wife, MRS. DANNY HARDIN, welcomed us to her church, her people, and to the RUSSIAN BIBLE SOCIETY that has its headquarters next to the church. CAROLYN RENO challenged us to understand the true meaning of "inspiration"; and I gave a few words about THE FOLLY OF TODAY’S NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION--you know that is the one that Zondervan has come up with that is gender-inclusive. It was my intent, before I knew that Mrs. Joah would be with us, to give a lengthy talk on the subject, as it is VERY important; but I passed out my July/2002 Just For Women radio tape on the subject to all the women instead. YOU MAY GET THAT TAPE, TOO (JFW#27 @ $4.00 + $2.00 S&H). I hope they have listened to it.

FOR SEVERAL YEARS--I think it may be six--DR. WAITE HAS BEEN ONE OF THE SPEAKERS AT THE CHRISTIAN LAKE BIBLE CONFERENCE IN UPPER NEW YORK. I can’t tell you exactly how to get there but it is further North than Albany, taking Route #87. It is a small conference but a beautiful place with its man-made lake and beautiful trees. The director is MR. DON WEBB. He and his sidekick, JAMES, work night and day to make the place liveable and relaxing. There are cabins with names like "Ruth and Boaz," and a brand new lodge with private rooms and dorm rooms on the second floor. In that area of the camp grounds are new rest-room facilities with the conveniences of home away from home. I wish you would try it out next year. There are plenty of places to cook--especially in the large, rustic outside kitchen and dining area. There is swimming and boating. They have rules about swimming but nothing good Christians would have a problem with. The meeting house--a tabernacle-type building--is very nice for a camp. It is all enclosed and I think can be heated. They have a big, unique underground fan that cools off the group in the summer--that is during the Bible teaching/preaching meetings. CAMPERS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND EVERY EVENING SERVICE AND ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND THE NINE O’CLOCK MESSAGES, TOO. PASTOR JOSEPH PAGANO AND HIS MIDDLETOWN BIBLE CHURCH HAVE COME TO THE CAMP FOR THREE DIFFERENT YEARS. He is originally from the area and enjoys having his people see the countryside, visit his parents, and enjoy Dr. Waite’s teaching. He always says to my husband, "Let me know when you are going to be here and our people will plan to be with you that week." It is nice for his people to learn and fellowship with my husband and me. Maybe you would like to come next year, Lord willing, when Dr. Waite teaches again at CHRISTIAN LAKE BIBLE CONFERENCE. He’s planning on being there some time in AUGUST/2003. CALL HIM AND ASK HIM WHEN HIS TIMES ARE, as I don’t know at this writing; but your calling will compel him to decide. This year my husband taught the SEVEN DISPENSATIONS. They are on two sets of audio tapes: The PREACHING tapes of the evening services (BFT #3078/1-3 @ $9.00+$2.00 S&H) and the DISCUSSION tapes of the morning services (BFT #3079/1-3 + $2.00 S&H). He has taught this subject several times in the recent years and has found a need for Christians to review it. As you probably know, PROGRESSIVE DISPENSATIONALISM has galloped into many theological circles. This teaching compromises and says that Jesus Christ is ruling the Kingdom of God now. It is a miss-mash! I’m told that even DALLAS THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY has forsaken the strict dispensational position that it held when DR. LEWIS SPERRY CHAFER was its founder & president. What do you know about that?

BEFORE I STOP WRITING ABOUT CHRISTIAN LAKE, I MUST TELL YOU ABOUT THE LOG CABIN THAT THEY PURCHASED AND FIXED UP WITH INDOOR PLUMBING JUST FOR ME! It used to be a hunting cabin for the use of a certain family that came to the area for deer and bear. The main owners died off, if I understand it right, and a nephew or cousin or someone decided to sell it to CHRISTIAN LAKE. They had wanted it for a long time because it was on the edge of the road and practically a part of the camp. SO, THE LORD MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR THE CAMP TO BUY THAT CABIN. I guess Mr. Webb and James cut trees down to pay for such projects. Don Webb is a lumberman by trade and has his own saw mill by his large log cabin adjacent to the camp.

THE WEBB LOG HOUSE IS A WORK OF ART! My husband and I stayed in that private home one time when his wife was still living. We did miss ELLY this trip. It’s been one year since she died. She was one in a million! We loved her in the Lord. Her death was sudden, but her husband said that she got her dying wish not to have prolonged suffering. Yes, that is a blessing. But, we can’t choose the method that our Heavenly Father chooses to close our journey in this Vale of Tears, can we?

ANYHOW GETTING BACK TO NEW LITTLE LOG HOUSE. I just loved it! It was just right for two people--Dr. Waite and me; but could have had three or more sleep in the loft above our bedroom. I kept wishing that my adult children could stop in. What a beautiful place for a family reunion. There was no TV--in many ways a relief. We bought a clock radio and heard a "Christian station" which was good. The view from the kitchen, porch and front room was spectacular. I cooked simply, lived relaxed, and never had to walk anyplace I didn’t want to. I was overwhelmed to think anyone would do all that carpenter & plumbing work just for me and others who have a hard time getting around on rugged ground. I told Mr. Webb that I could stay another week or two. But of course, we have duties here in Collingswood and that was not possible. Anyhow BEN WILKENSON from the RUSSIAN BIBLE SOCIETY was scheduled to be there in two days.

Oh, when I say the new log cabin was "just for me," it may be a little exaggerated because others use it. But, I was so, so, so, THANKFUL! The camp committee wanted to buy the place and put on the extra rooms for a long time; but I guess, the fact that I stayed home last year because I couldn’t do all the walking was the impetus for Don Webb and James to get to work so Dr. Waite wouldn’t be without me. I’m so valuable, you know! Ha!

If you & others like you do not run to our need, we are going to have to lay off some of our BFT help. Maybe that doesn’t mean anything to you right now; but when you order & there is a long delay in your receiving that order, you’ll understand the problem.
