BURST FORTH RAPIDLY 1 February 2008 (Edited by DCB) Scientists from the
University of Oxford in the UK and others sought to answer "Do most changes come
about slowly and gradually or rapidly within relatively short spans of time?" To
answer this "the researchers studied sets of basic vocabulary from 490 different
languages in Europe, Asia and Africa. They used the same kind of computer
program biologists use to create family trees to track the appearance of related
words and so trace the evolution of new languages from older ones."
The results of the research "showed many of the novel words that make up new
languages appear in an initial burst over a relatively short period of time."
Editor’s Comment: The answer is readily available in the Bible, for it tells
us in Genesis 11: 7- 9 that the Lord confounded "their language, that they may
not understand one another's speech. 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from
thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 9
Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound
the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them
abroad upon the face of all the earth."

CHILD CARE LINK WITH STRESS LEVELS 2 February 2008 (Edited by DCB) "CHILDREN
from loving homes become stressed when placed in poor quality child-care centres,
new scientific research has found." However, those "children from disadvantaged
families are better off in child care even if the quality is substandard,
according to a new study."

PARENTS' PRE-SCHOOL ROLL-CALL 21 HOURS EARLY IN BIRCHGROVE 30 January, 2008
(Edited by DCB) Sydney, Australia "PARENTS frantic to secure pre-school spots
for their children for 2009 camped outside an inner west school from midday
yesterday." Even if you were first in line you were not guaranteed a spot for
your child as "special needs" are considered first. However, this did not put
off parents as they came "armed with portable chairs, sleeping bags, food and
even a few drinks" waiting for the office to open. This pre-school is popular as
"The fees for the pre-school are $85 a child each week which include meals,
compared with childcare prices in the area of about $100 a day."
Editor’s Comment: I do not mean to stir up the ire of some but God never
intended for the children to be dropped off at a centre for someone else to
rear. Biblically, children need to be reared by a father and mother and not a
child care centre!

BAPTIST CONVENTION IN ATLANTA SPARKS HOPE FOR FUTURE UNITY 2 February 2008
(Edited by DCB) ATLANTA – "The organizers of this week's Celebration of a New
Baptist Covenant admit that time will tell whether the gathering in Atlanta was
a ‘moment or a movement.’" This gathering of over fourteen thousand was
"conceived in large measure by former President Jimmy Carter". That in itself
tells any discerning person something. It was three days "of sermons, speeches,
music and workshops with a focus on such topics as evangelism, poverty,
immigration, peacemaking, responding to natural disasters and protecting
religious liberty." The speakers for this gathering were liberals such as
womanizer Bill Clinton, Mr. Bore himself, Al Gore, "…(who at a luncheon attended
by 2,000 gave one of his now-famous slide presentations on global warming),
Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, Children's Defense Fund founder Marian Wright
Edelman, author John Grisham, and former U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher."
Mr. Carter said, as a new evangelical or liberal would, that there were many
that may, "differ on Bible interpretation, the death penalty, gay rights and the
role of women in the church…" but as "…Baptists should still be able to work
together for evangelism and service." Note the words working "together" through
evangelism and missions. This I the very thing that has brought us the ecumenism
of today! Independent Baptists are as guilty of this as Carter and his ilk. This
ecumenism will lead the world directly to that one whose "number is Six
hundred threescore and six."
http://www.abpnews.com/3002.article GORE: ‘HEAPING CONTEMPT’ ON CREATION
INCONSISTENT WITH GLORIFYING GOD 1 February 2008 (Edited by DCB) "Christians who
speak out for environmentalism can combat skepticism and end America’s addiction
to carbon fuels, Al Gore told 2,000 Baptists who gathered to hear him Jan. 31 in
part of a three-day celebration of denominational unity." Gore went on to say
that "…improved health care, higher infant-survival rates, lower poverty in
general, and education for girls and women all reduce the need or desire for
large families. In turn, smaller families reduce demands on water and energy."
Editor’s Comment: Psalm 2: 1 "Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine
a vain thing?" Spurgeon makes this comment which I believe fits these professing
"Christian" environmentalists’ "Where there is much rage there is generally some
folly, and in this case there is an excess of it."
http://www.abpnews.com/2997.article BURLESON, OUTSPOKEN PASTOR AND BLOGGER,
RESIGNS FROM INTERNATIONAL MISSION BOARD 30 January, 2008 (Edited by DCB)
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – "Wade Burleson, the prominent pastor and blogger who railed
against what he saw as an excessive narrowing of parameters within the Southern
Baptist Convention, has resigned from his position as a trustee of the SBC’s
International Mission Board." "Burleson has long clashed with some of his
colleagues on the board. In 2005, IMB trustees decided voted not to appoint
missionary candidates who said they practice ‘private prayer language’ or who
have not received ‘biblical baptism’."
Editor’s Comment: I am amazed at what goes on in the SBC but also I am amazed
at what I have seen in the "Independent" Baptists. I predict that this private
prayer language will become an issue within some of the Independent Baptists in
the not so far future. The only thing is many of the Independent Baptist Mission
Boards are not as open and it might take more time for it to leak out than it
did for the SBC International Mission Board.
http://www.abpnews.com/3021.article NEW YORK COURT RULING ADVANCES GAY
MARRIAGE 5 February 2008 (Edited by DCB) NEW YORK – "Recent rulings in Oregon
and New York have provided victories for supporters of same-sex unions and
setbacks for gay-rights opponents." An appellate panel in New York unanimously
ruled that the state of New York Legislature decides "to prohibit the
recognition of same-sex marriages solemnized abroad" it "must recognize such
unions legally performed in other states."
Editor’s Comment: Psalm 7:11 "God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry
with the wicked every day."

February 2008 TIZZ IN THE PEWS (Edited by DCB) Sydney, Australia - "A
FLOCK of up to 100 Christian ministers is planning to march in next month's Gay
and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade in Sydney to apologise for the way churches have
treated homosexuals in the past. The group, called 100 Revs, says churches have
often been ‘profoundly unloving’ towards homosexuals and transsexuals. ‘For
these things we apologise. We are deeply sorry and ask the forgiveness of the
gay community,’ the group says. The 100 Revs says its members are not official
representatives of their churches or denominations. Spokesman Mike Hercock says
new members are signing up every day and the target of 100 marchers is likely to
be achieved. The apology follows Sydney Anglican Archbishop Peter Jensen's
decision to boycott the once-in-a-decade Lambeth conference of Anglican bishops
in Canterbury starting on July 17 because of the presence of attendees who have
liberal views on homosexuality. The boycott is not supported by Anglican Primate
of Australia Phillip Aspinall."
Editor’s Comment: Psalm 50:18 "When thou sawest a thief, then thou
consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers." From the Treasury
of David we read the following "And hast been partaker with adulterers.
One by one the moral precepts are thus broken by the sinners in Zion.
Under the cloak of piety, unclean livers conceal themselves. We may do this by
smiling at unchaste jests, listening to indelicate expressions, and conniving at
licentious behaviour in our presence; and if we thus act, how dare we preach, or
lead public prayer, or wear the Christian name? See how the Lord lays
righteousness to the plummet. How plainly all this declares that without
holiness no man shall see the Lord! No amount of ceremonial or theological
accuracy can cover dishonesty and fornication: these filthy things must be
either purged from us by the blood of Jesus, or they will kindle a fire in God's
anger which will burn even to the lowest hell."
Because of Grace and Calvary,
