In this book the Temple of Understanding (TOU) is frequently cited. The Temple of Understanding is affiliated with the United Nations as a "Non-Governmental Organization" and has "secured NGO Consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)." The Temple of Understanding has often gathered "the leaders of the world's religions together to examine problems of intolerance, injustice, and persecution for religious beliefs worldwide." The TOU has "organized regional conferences in the United States at Princeton, Harvard, and Cornell Universities." In the 1970’s the TOU brought religious leaders from around the world to the United States who would introduce "Buddhism, Jainism, and Hinduism to Americans. This influx of Asian religions in the U.S. opened up the scope of religious possibilities for American students. Consequently, these conferences created a buzz on college campuses-- an average of 1500 students walked out of their classes to ‘sit-in’ on the TOU conferences. Clearly, a spiritual hunger in the United States welcomed the arrival of religious teachers from Asian countries, and the TOU was perfectly situated to translate this into an interfaith movement. The TOU thereby became one of the pioneering organizations of the interfaith movement."

Editor’s Comment: Note the words in the above article "a spiritual hunger in the United States." These words are sad indeed for God’s people are to be "…the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men" Matthew 5:13.

Yes, German police recently arrested the mother of children who were being home-schooled. The father had to flee with the children to Austria. The European Court of Human Rights upheld the German ban on home-schooling, which dated back to 1938 in the Nazi era. ... Think about that at a time when Americans, even Supreme Court justices, are advocating the use of foreign legal precedents for American court rulings. The Daily Telegraph, Sydney, Australia 23 October 2006 ACT REVIVES GAY UNION PLANS (Edited by DCB) The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) "Government has revived its plan to make same-sex unions legal in the territory as the federal Government reassesses legal discrimination against homosexuals." Back in June 2006 "the federal Government disallowed the ACT's Civil Unions Act, which would have allowed gay couples in the territory to enter into civil unions, giving them the same legal recognition as heterosexual marriages." The new legislation "will be replacing the term ‘civil union’ with ‘civil partnership’ so that it is not confused with marriage." The ACT Attorney-General Simon Corbell said the change was "to make it clear that it's not the same as marriage, that it is not another form of marriage; in fact it is simply a way of giving legal recognition to same sex relationships." The Prime Minister and the Federal Attorney General have no plans to allow same sex marriages

but "are expected to review legislation to remove areas of discrimination, including access to the Medicare safety net and the couple's rate threshold for the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme."

Des Moines Register, Iowa, 1 October 2006 USA CHURCHES SHOW GORE MOVIE FOR FREE (Edited by DCB) "An interfaith group is taking on the issue of global warming as part of its religious mandate." Ninety four Iowa churches offered "free screenings of ‘An Inconvenient Truth,’ the movie about global warming featuring former Vice President Al Gore." Conservative and liberal religious groups are increasing their focus "on global warming as part of their religious mandate to be good stewards of the land." A minister of the Clarion, Iowa United Church of Christ, Congregational, said "Personally, I think we're in a warming pattern and our species is exacerbating the situation. And there are things we can do."

Editor’s Comment: These religious folk need to read Genesis 8:22 "While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease."

American Family Association (AFA) 23 October 2006 WAL-MART ROLLS OUT RED CARPET FOR HOMOSEXUAL MARRIAGE (Edited by DCB) Due to Wal-Mart’s financial backing of the Gay and Lesbian lifestyle it has been given a position on the board of the "National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC)." The "president of NGLCC, said he expects Wal-Mart to use its influence to pressure suppliers like P&G, Johnson & Johnson, and Gillette to give homosexual businesses preferential treatment." A search on the Wal-Mart web site by the AFA "turned up the following number of items for sale: Gay – 1148, Lesbian – 468, Transgender – 40, Bisexual – 38, Gay Marriage – 26."

Editor’s Comment: Wal-Mart executives should take time to read the Genesis account of Sodom and Gomorrah, for those cities "are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire" Jude 7.
