(Editorial: as an American missionary this editorial is primarily for USA readers.) The story is told of a very poor holy man who lived in an isolated area of China. In that part of China food was scarce so in order to show devotion to his gods, each day before his time of meditation; he put a dish of butter up on the window sill as an offering. One day his cat came in and ate the butter. His solution was, tying the cat to the bedpost each day before meditation. This man was so revered for his piety that others joined him as disciples and worshipped as he did. Generations later, long after the holy man was dead; his followers placed an offering of butter on the window sill during their time of prayer and meditation and furthermore, each one bought a cat and tied it to the bedpost.

We laugh at this story because Baptists hold to the Bible and not tradition; or do we? The New Testament only knows of one God ordained mission agency and that is the local church. Yet, since 1792 many independent Baptist churches have followed tradition in allowing mission boards to usurp their God given authority over their own members sent in obedience to the Great Commission. The Association of Baptists for World Evangelism’s MISSIONARY SERVICE COVENANT is an example of this.

"My Willingness To Submit Myself

To The ABWE Administrative Leadership:

I voluntarily submit myself to the duly constituted authority of my home church, my field leadership, and the ABWE administrative leadership in making decisions that affect my life and work. I believe God can use this viable relationship to assist me in the determination of His will in accordance with His Word." (Emphasis added).

So according to ABWE the missionary is under the "duly constituted authority" of their home church, field leadership, and ABWE administrative leadership. This may seem plausible to ABWE and some pastors but it is not Biblical. Independent Baptist pastors would never agree to denominational authority over the local church or the pastor and rightfully so. But with a missionary this all seems to change.

ABC News.com 12 September, 2003 USA- PROUD PAPAS - GAY DADS - DELIGHTED
OVER NEW QUADRUPLETS "A gay couple who own two hair salons in Lexington, Ky., are now the proud fathers of 7-week-old quadruplets, with the assistance of a surrogate mother." The biological father is a 36 year old lawyer. He and his 31 year old "partner" are "believed to be the first gay couple ever to have quadruplets. They had the children through in-vitro fertilization" of the "the babies' mom" who one of them met "by chance at one of their salons." All of this unnatural and ungodly business was aired on "ABCNEWS' Good Morning America."

Editor’s Comment: The acceptance of the sodomite lifestyle is gaining momentum around the world. How near is the day when one will be imprisoned for a "hate" crime for quoting Romans 1:27? "And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet."

Anglican Communion News Service CANADA 10 JANUARY 2004 MIXED REACTION FOLLOWS SAME-SEX WEDDING [ACNS source: Anglican Journal] "Some of the callers and writers were viciously, personally abusive, others were supportive, others disappointed and still others were confused. That was the range of reaction reported by Bishop Ralph Spence and Dean Peter Wall of the diocese of Niagara after Dean Wall married a lesbian couple last August at Christ's Church Cathedral in Hamilton, Ontario."

In an interview Wall said he had received communication from about 125 people and the "overwhelming majority were very positive and very moving." Some said he was a prophet and a hero of which Wall said "neither of which is true." Isn’t he humble? Wall said he would "characterize" those who were critical of his marrying the two lesbians "as homophobic."

Editor’s Comment: The Australian Labor Party (ALP) leader has said he supports same sex unions so one would assume it may be an issue in the 2004 Australian Federal election.

Sydney Morning Herald (SMH Hereafter) Australia- RESIGNATION ROCKS LABOR CAMPAIGN 15 January, 2004 "Queensland cabinet minister Merri Rose resigned last night amid a bullying scandal, rocking the Queensland Government's bid for a third term of office.

Premier Peter Beattie announced the resignation after a 90-minute meeting with Ms Rose, the Tourism, Racing and Fair Trading Minister."

The bullying claim lodged by a staff member was upheld but in spite of that "Ms Rose still plans to contest her Gold Coast seat of Currumbin in the February 7 poll."

Editor’s Comment: Read the next article.

Des Moines Register 14 January, 2003 Iowa, USA - GOVERNOR PROPOSES ANTI-BULLY SCHOOL PROGRAM "Gov. Tom Vilsack on Tuesday announced a proposal that would require schools to develop plans to combat bullying." He said that children deserved "a safe haven at school to learn and grow." He went on to say that "Schools must be held accountable when bullying or harassment takes place."

The senior class president of one Des Moines High School thought it was an amazing idea for "he experienced name-calling as a middle-school student."

Editor’s Comment: Is it not interesting that Iowa is combating "bullying" in the public schools and the state government of Queensland, Australia has a government minister resign for "bullying". Is there a connection here? More laws or new hearts? 1Timothy 1:9 "Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners."

SMH 10 January 2004, Paris -CRUISE HAILS BUDDHIST INFLUENCE "Tom Cruise, who stars in Edward Zwick's ‘The Last Samurai’, Friday praised eastern religion saying ‘Buddhism is the grandfather of scientology’ and climbed up on a chair to show off his new-found strength and flexibility in the making of the film."

Cruise who has been in Scientology for twenty years said he "...was struck by the code of Bushido (the way of the Samurai). It's powerful, it talks about compassion, helping others, responsibility, integrity... timeless values, ways I identify with." He went on to say "Buddhism is the grandfather of scientology."

Editor’s Comment: Sadly many who profess to be a Christian, have this man or another Hollowhead as their "idol". 1John 5:21 "Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen."

Yours against apostasy and for Biblical truth,

David C. Bennett, Titus 2:13
