The Sentinel - United Kingdom - 22 December 2003- ANTI-GAY PREACHING ROW THREATENS TO SPLIT CHURCH - The article that followed this headline appeared in the January 2004 AIB Newsletter. It dealt with allegations that two minister were homosexuals. Since then communication has been received from a brother of one of the men involved. Here is a portion of his edited email: "Sir, I am writing in response to comments made about the Rev Michael Hall in your January 2004 newsletter. A lot of what has been reported in the press is supposition born out of a desire to sensationalize and is fuelled by a lack of real inside information. You ask me how I know these things - well the Reverend Mike Hall is my brother and I know only too well that the things being interpreted from what has been printed are lies. The Reverend Mike Hall is not gay, practicing or otherwise and I would challenge anyone to present any evidence to the contrary - the evidence does not exist."

Editor's Comment: I take this man's word for what he is stating as true but it is a reminder that even in our everyday relationships we must ever be on guard to "Abstain from all appearance of evil."

INDEPENDENT.CO.UK 12 February 2004 CHURCH POLICY ON SEXUALITY MUST REFLECT REAL WORLD, SAYS CLERGY (Edited by DCB) "The Church of England came under renewed pressure from its own clergy yesterday to update its stance on homosexuality and gay priests." "In a debate at the General Synod in London, speaker after speaker urged the church to become more inclusive and less judgmental and accept that society was moving at a faster pace." Those who held a "more traditionalist" view "were muted." The Church of England "says that while gay clergy can be appointed, they should remain celibate." A C of E minister in south London "told the synod that his long-term relationship with another man reflected the real world that the church was failing to keep in step with." This same man was given applause when he stated "I am not a heterosexual gone astray. I am a gay Christian, with a Christian life and relationship with God. I was elected to the synod as an openly gay priest. The reality is out there in the church; it must become inclusive."

Editor's Comment: Luke 13: 3 "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."

NAE web site- 2004 NATIONAL CONVENTION (Edited by DCB) "Mark your calendars for the NAE's 62nd National Convention, March 11-12, 2004!" This religious gathering will be held "at New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado." Speakers for the NAE Convention include "phenomenal speakers such Dr. James Dobson, Dinesh D'Souza, Dr. Jack Graham, Philip Jenkins and Robert Schuller..." (Emphasis added)

Editor's Comment: What a line up! Dobson and his psycho-heresy, Shuller and his apostasy, and what can I say about Jack Graham except the Southern Baptist Convention is getting more conservative!?

News Weekly, 10 January 2003 AUSTRALIA - EDITORIAL: BATTLE LINES DRAWN FOR 2004 by Peter Westmore, President of the National Civic Council (Edited by DCB) "Last month, Federal Labor Parliamentarians, dismayed by the inability of Simon Crean to match John Howard, decided to gamble on a new-look Labor leadership, electing Mark Latham to lead the party into the next Federal Election. Since then, Mr Latham has spelt out, in a number of interviews, the general policy direction on which he intends to run in 2004. His agenda includes a new emphasis on environment issues, gay rights, and the republic…"

Editor's Comment: Pr 29:2 "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn."

Australian Labor Party Web Site: LAUNCH OF THE QUEENSLAND AND SYDNEY GAY AND LESBIAN - Kerry O'Brien - Shadow Minister for Tourism: A speech he gave at the Conrad Hotel, Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - 22 January 2004 (Edited by DCB) "I am pleased that my first official engagement as Shadow Minister for Tourism is this launch of visitor guides directed at the gay and lesbian market in North America." "According to research conducted by Community Marketing Incorporated, the market is worth more than 54 billion US dollars." "Anyone who doubts the contribution gay and lesbian visitors make to our tourism sector has never understood the impact of Sydney's Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras on our tourist statistics. Every year the Mardi Gras attracts about 5,000 international visitors..." The Shadow Minister then said "I think Mardi Gras sends a message to the world that Australia is an open and tolerant society - a gay and lesbian friendly destination for tourists from around the world." "I am proud to be a member of the Labor Party from Tasmania and a supporter of a Labor Government that brought my state out of the dark ages. Tasmania now boasts some of the most progressive relationship laws in the world - laws that treat people as people regardless of their sexuality."

Editor's Comment: Homosexual rights will be a big issue in this year's Federal election.

Yahoo News- Associated Press 13 February, 2004 SAN FRANCISCO OFFICIALS MARRY GAY COUPLE (Edited by DCB) USA "In a bold political and legal challenge to California law, city authorities officiated at the marriage of a lesbian couple Thursday and said they will issue more gay marriage licenses." "Longtime lesbian activists Phyllis Lyon, 79, and Del Martin, 83, were hurriedly issued a license and were married just before noon by City Assessor Mabel Teng in a closed-door civil ceremony at City Hall, mayor's spokesman Peter Ragone said. The two have been a couple for 51 years." This was just the beginning for now city "officials would begin issuing marriage licenses to any gay couples applying for one. One lesbian couple had already lined up outside City Hall, one of the women wearing a white wedding dress." The marriage of these two lesbians "runs counter to a ballot measure California voters approved in 2000 that defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman."

Editor's Comment: Genesis 2: 18, 21-24 "And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."

TELEGRAPH.CO.UK 11/02.2004 GENERAL SYNOD: LATTE AND PRAYERS TO LURE BACK THE PAGAN BRITONS: Due to declining attendance the Church of England will seek to attract people "...with new styles of worship, from midweek services with coffee and croissants to cathedral raves led by rapping DJs."

Editor's Comment: One should not be too hard on them for I imagine some Baptists will or are trying it as well.

AgapePress 20 February, 2004 GIBSON'S WORDS FUEL CONTROVERSY ALREADY SPARKED BY 'PASSION' (Edited by DCB)

"Less than a week before The Passion of the Christ opens nationwide, concerns are being raised over some comments made by director Mel Gibson regarding who qualifies for heaven." Appearing on America's ABC's Primetime Live Gibson was asked "whether his traditionalist belief system barred the door to heaven to Jews, Muslims, and Protestants." His reply was "That's not the case at all -- absolutely not. It is possible for people who are not even Christian to get into the kingdom of heaven." The article went on to say that "Gibson says he believes that it is not impossible for non-Christians to enter heaven, but that it is 'an easier ride' for those of his faith."

Editor's Comment: It seems Christians are looking to the movie stars such as Mel Gibson, mega churches such as Willow Creek and Saddleback but I wonder what God may be looking for? Zechariah 4:10 "For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth."

Des Moines Register (USA, Iowa) 20 February, 2004 RELIGION BRIEFS (Edited by DCB) The following are just a few of the happenings for local Des Moines, Iowa area churches:

"ST. JOHN'S TO HOLD HOMOSEXUALITY FORUM: A forum on homosexuality will be presented by former Bishop Herbert Chilstrom…at St. John's Lutheran Church, 600 Sixth Ave. in Des Moines. The morning session will discuss "How I came to be where I am today on this issue," and the afternoon session will be on "How do Lutherans read scripture" and "Interpretation of biblical texts on homosexuality."

"FORTY DAYS OF PURPOSE," a six-week spiritual growth campaign…at St. Mark Lutheran Church. Participants will learn about God's five purposes for life. A national simulcast of the Rev. Rick Warren, author of "The Purpose Driven Life," will kick off the event.

THE PARTY GRAS DIXIELAND BAND will perform for an upbeat, celebratory worship service…at the Ankeny First United Methodist Church…in Ankeny.

THE 64TH SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE LUNCHEON…at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul…Live Dixieland music will also be provided.

"FORTY DAYS OF PURPOSE," a spiritual growth program will be offered at…Lutheran Church of Hope.

A WINTER WORKSHOP FOR CHURCHES to learn more information on the mission effort of buying coffee from Our Sister Parish…at Westminster Presbyterian Church…."

Editor's Comment: Forum on homosexuality, live Dixieland music, Rick Warren's philosophy, and info on buying coffee! These "churches" offer everything but the preaching of the Word but then who would come?! Matthew 5:13 "Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Hebrews 4:12 "12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword…" 2Timothy 4:2 "Preach the word…"
