Standing unashamedly for the King James Bible DEBATE ON ALCOHOL USE DOMINATES RESOLUTIONS REPORT TIME 15 June, 2006 (Edited by DCB) "Messengers to the 2006 Southern Baptist Convention adopted resolutions on such currently controversial topics as immigration and the environment June 14, but the debate time was dominated by an issue addressed repeatedly in the convention’s 161-year history -- alcohol." "When the back-and-forth on alcohol finally ended, the messengers passed with about a four-fifths majority a resolution not only opposing the manufacture and consumption of alcohol but urging the exclusion of Southern Baptists who drink from election to the convention’s boards, committees and entities. Like other resolutions, it is not binding on SBC churches and entities."

Editor’s Comment: Social drinking among those who claim the name Christian is increasing. The SBC folk and independent Baptists, need to read William Patton’s excellent book "Bible Wines Laws Of Fermentation". In my copy, the page preceding the Foreword, Dean Stanley said "Each age of the Church has, as it were, turned over a new leaf in the Bible, and found a response to its own wants. We have a leaf to turn-a leaf not the less new because it is so simple." In the Foreword we read that "This book was published over a hundred years ago but it is vital to every age. Every minister and every serious student of the Bible should have this book in his library." If you do not have this book you should obtain one. You may go online and purchase this book from Amazon. WRAP-UP: SPEAKERS URGE UNITY IN SBC; MESSENGERS ELECT FRANK PAGE NEW PRESIDENT; RICE SAYS U.S. HAS 'MORAL' DUTY IN WORLD 16 June 2006 (Edited by DCB) Outgoing SBC President Bobby Welch "told Southern Baptists to ‘come together on the main thing.’ SBC Executive Committee President Morris Chapman said the denomination must learn to ‘major on the majors.’ "It is time to cease narrowing the parameters of our collective convictions and widen the parameters of our vision for world missions,’ Chapman said. ‘... A continuation of the constant politicization of this convention and its churches will come at the price of turning conservative brother against conservative brother, of losing church members who love Jesus, love the Bible, love the church, love the convention, love the Kingdom of God and love world missions and at the price of losing the favor of God upon us."

Editor’s Comment: This new evangelical statement "major on the majors" doesn’t match Acts 20:27 "For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God" or 2Timothy 4:2 "Preach the word (the entire Word not only what you think are the major points); be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine." SBC’S NEW PRESIDENT, FRANK PAGE, FIELDS REPORTERS’ QUESTIONS 14 June, 2006 (Edited by DCB) "A Dallas Morning News reporter sought clarification as to whether Page would appoint an inerrantist with charismatic practices." Part of Page’s answer was that "his own congregation includes some Calvinists as well as a few charismatics..." Page said "...he would be careful in going beyond the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 in narrowing doctrinal parameters."

Editor’s Comment: It amazes me how a man who says he is neither a Calvinist nor a Charismatic can pastor such a "mixt multitude". Numbers 11:4 "And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting..."

Agape Press 15 June 2006 DOCTORS WHO EUTHANIZE EXPERIENCE NEGATIVE EFFECTS, CHRISTIAN MD WARNS (Edited by DCB) "An Oregon cancer specialist says euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide have very real and devastating effects on the doctors performing these procedures. According to Dr. Kenneth Stevens of the Christian Medical & Dental Associations (CMDA), anecdotal evidence suggests that healthcare professionals who ‘help’ their patients die are often deeply affected." In the Netherlands physician assisted suicide is legal. In Great Britain "Baroness Finlay, a member of the House of Lords and a physician, asked several Dutch doctors the question, "The first time you performed euthanasia, how did you feel about it as a clinician?" The response to that question "by one doctor was 'Awful.’" Another Dutch physician replied that "It is not a normal medical treatment. You never get used to it." "Apparently, even in a country where doctor-assisted death has been legal for years and physicians have had much more experience with these practices, for many there is simply no getting used to the idea of causing a patient's death."

Editor’s Comment: Regardless of the euphemisms used to describe assisted suicide – "mercy killing" or "dying with dignity," - it is still murder. Genesis 9: 6 "Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man." Prov.14: 12 "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death."

Brethren, keep "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ" Titus 2:13.

Because of Calvary,

David C. Bennett, D. Min.
