http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,24871984-5006002,00.html  January 05, 2009 HUGH JACKMAN BARES SOUL OVER CHRISTIANITY, KARMA – (Edited by DCB) – This editor does not really care what the so-called celebs do or  think but the above headline grabbed my attention as the word “Christianity” was implicated. So of course I wanted to know what negative (it has to be negative or it would not have made the paper) remarks would be directed towards “Christianity”.

Jackson’s father was converted to the Christian faith during one of Billy Graham’s Australian crusades and “Jackman said he had no choice but to follow suit.” But now Jackman has “revealed he spent years soul-searching for a spiritual belief system separate from Christianity.” Jackman said the Christian “religion” just did not “click” with him and that he could not “get past the fact that 95 per cent of people on the planet are going to hell because they are non-Christian.”

What is Jackman’s belief system? He said “I believe more in cause and effect. I've seen it in my life and in the lives around me; the thoughts you think and the actions you take will determine what comes up in the future.”

Editor’s Comment; At least Jackman is honest but sadly he is one of those of whom Jesus said “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him” John 3:36.

http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,24871809-5001021,00.html CHILD HOMICIDE RATES REDUCED IF PARENTS DON'T SMACK KIDS January 05, 2009 (Edited by DCB) – In the Australian state of New South Wales, out of the 165 child homicides between 1991 and 2005, “59 were caused by physical punishments with young fathers and stepfathers the biggest culprits.” So now Australian doctors are seeking a ban on parents smacking their children and this is “being backed by Australian Childhood Foundation chief executive officer Joe Tucci”. New Zealand banned smacking in 2007 following Sweden who banned smacking 30 years ago. During the 15 years after the ban Sweden “did they didn't have a single case of fatal child abuse”.  Sydney's St Vincent's Hospital’s Psychiatrist Dr Olav Nielssen  said “smacking bans, combined with strong public education about ways to better discipline children, would make the biggest difference in reducing Australia's child homicide rates.” Education is the answer!?

Dr. Nielsen in writing in the Medical Journal of Australia, called on his medical colleagues “to act on the first signs of mental illness among parents to save young lives.” In their studies “They found 27 instances where children were killed by someone during psychotic illness, which may be reduced if doctors recognised and treated the first episode of psychosis. Five children also died after carers gave them methadone, leading for calls to end ‘take away’ doses of methadone so that the treatment was only provided to adults under supervision.”

Editor’s Comment: The world has gone mad but that is simply a result of Genesis 3. The British Medical Journal at http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/320/7230/261 calls Sweden’s law “enlightened thinking”. The Bible (but who believes the Bible) clearly states in Proverbs 23:13 “Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. 14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.” Spurgeon’s Devotional Commentary says “Mr. Bridges in his "Notes on Proverbs," says, "Eli tried gentler means, and the sad issue is written for our instruction.  Is it not cruel love that turns away from painful duty?  To suffer sin upon a child is tantamount to hating him in our heart.  Is it not better that the flesh should smart than that the soul should die?  What if thy child should reproach thee throughout eternity, for the neglect of that timely correction which might have saved his soul from hell." For information refuting Sweden’s, NZ’s and Nielssen’s thinking go to .

January 4, 2009 NO. OF WOUNDED IN ATTACKS FROM GAZA MORE THAN DOUBLED IN '08 (Edited by DCB) – Israel is in the midst of a war with Palestinian terrorists in Gaza. It is not often told in the main-line media that “In Israel, eight people were killed in 2008 by rocket attacks, 19 were killed in shootings, one person was stabbed to death, one was killed in a suicide bombing, one in a bulldozer attack, and an additional eight soldiers were killed in battle.” Ephraim Goldman, spokesman for Hatzalah Judea and Samaria, said there was a “rise in terrorist attacks perpetrated by Israeli Arabs. In addition to the two bulldozer attacks, an Israeli Arab also killed eight in a shooting attack at the Mercaz Harav Yeshiva in Jerusalem.” If Australia or the United States were to receive daily missile attacks along with other forms of terrorism from one of their neighbours surely the world would think war would be inevitable! Why not Israel? Well, according to http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/meast/01/04/israel.gaza.diplomacy/index.html?eref=rss_topstoriesThe EU said Sunday the rocket attacks did not justify Israel's incursion.”

As http://www.danielpipes.org/blog/2008/12/have-israelis-finally-learned-the-strategic.html#continued says “The land for peace concept is in jeopardy, write Aron Heller and Matti Friedman for the Associated Press: Israeli hard-liners have warned for many years that any territory Israel vacates will be used to attack it. Now they can point to the Hamas missile that slammed into a bus stop in this port city Monday, killing a 39-year-old woman. It was fired from the Gaza Strip, which Israel gave up in 2005 and is now ruled by Hamas militants who reject the existence of the Jewish state. … Israelis who never thought they would be living under rocket fire prepared bomb shelters. Newspapers and TV stations displayed color-coded maps informing Israelis that they had 15, 30 or 45 seconds to reach cover after a warning siren goes off. In Ashdod malls, directions to the nearest shelters were posted.

It's called learning the hard way. After all, the same lesson was evident in 2006, when Hizbullah took advantage of the IDF's 2000 retreat from its Lebanese cordon sanitaire to snuggle right up to the border and shoot off missiles. As the Hamas rockets improve, an ever-larger portion of Israel's population comes under fire, now estimated between 700,000 and a million persons, with the number steadily growing. It's only a matter of time until the rockets reach Tel Aviv, the country's largest city, and Dimona, the site of its nuclear plant.

Israeli intelligence apparently estimates that Hizbullah now possesses rockets with a range that can reach Tel Aviv and beyond, targeting the vast majority of Israelis. As Yaakov Amidror, a former general, puts it, "The historical lesson of Oslo, of Lebanon and of Gaza proves that with every concession, every territory we leave is used for attacks against us." One wonders whether this lesson will be remembered when negotiations over the West Bank and the Golan Heights start up again. (December 31, 2008)”

Someday “shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness” Jeremiah 33:16

AUSTRALIAN BAPTISTS SUPPORT EARTH HOUR 2008 (edited by DCB) – Is climate change real? Well, the Baptist Union of Australia believes it is for “At 8.00 pm on March 29, Baptists around Australia will join with millions around the world to turn off the lights for an hour, expressing the need for united action against global warming. As well as promoting the good news about Jesus Christ, Australian Baptists are making a positive difference to the world through aid and development, defence of human rights, and education.” Sadly these folk are duped to believe that “Climate change poses a global threat to human survival...”

Editor’s Comment: It would be remiss to say man should not take care of God’s creation, however, Genesis 3 tells us that there was a real climate change early on in man’s history due to his disobedience to God his Creator. It is inexcusable to climb into bed with unbelievers on this unsubstantiated climate change or any other issue.

Because of Grace and Calvary,
