Standing unashamedly for the King James Bible

BAPTIST SEMINARY TO BECOME FIRST PROTESTANT SCHOOL TO OFFER PH.D. IN SPIRITUALITY 9 January, 2009 – (Edited by DCB) – According to a recent announcement the so called “flagship seminary of the Southern Baptist Convention” is seeking to be “the first Protestant institution in the United States to offer a Ph.D. in spirituality”. One of the fastest growing areas of theological education is that of “spirituality” according to Don Whitney. Whitney is “senior associate dean of Southern's School of Theology and director of the Center for Biblical Spirituality” in Louisville, KY.  “The doctor of ministry program in biblical spirituality focuses on spiritual formation with seminars on topics including spiritual disciplines, spiritual warfare, evangelism and discipleship, mentoring, and spiritual awakenings.” This is supposed to be one of the more conservative Southern Baptist schools!

THE ELVIS GOSPEL CELEBRATION HELD TODAY IN PARKES NSW 11th January 2009 – Edited by DCB – In the small community of Parkes, NSW, Australia the more unusual church services in the nation probably occurred this week. The “church” service was in conjunction with the Parkes annual Elvis Festival weekend. “The service included many of the hymns and spirituals sung by Elvis Presley and provided an opportunity for ministry to people who attend church irregularly - some this once a year.” There were “2,400 people” who attended this service. How to grow your church service? Provide worldly  entertainment and they will come!

FIRST WOMAN MINISTER CHOSEN FOR INAUGURAL PRAYER SERVICE 12 January 2009 – Edited by DCB - WASHINGTON – Sharon Watkins is the “president and general minister of Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the United States and Canada” which claims about 700,000 members. She will be delivering “the sermon at the National Prayer Service that caps the inauguration activities of Barack Obama.” She is “the first woman to give the sermon at the traditional event, to be held Jan. 21 at the National Cathedral in Washington.” The denomination to which Watkins belongs says the work it does is “influenced by its founding ideals of our unity in Christ with openness and diversity in practice and belief.” If you did not know it already, America is in trouble finically and religiously!

ROBERTSON PREDICTS SOCIALISM IN 2009 January 06, 2009 – (Edited by DCB) - VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Pat Robertson has publically said “that God told him to look for a quick rebound of the economy in 2009 but warned against threats of long-term runaway inflation and instability in the Middle East.” This remark of Robertson’s “has become an annual tradition for the Christian Broadcasting Network, Robertson sharedon ‘The 700 Club’.” Here Robertson gives forth those predictions he says “he discerns from God during an annual prayer retreat.” He has been correct on some and incorrect on others. Robertson did clarify his predictions by saying “I hope I've heard the Lord. I spend time praying and asking him for wisdom. If there's a mistake it's not his fault. It's mine.”

Editor’s Comment: If Robertson is not hearing the Lord who is he hearing? Jeremiah 23:32 “Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.”

WARREN PRAISES INVITATION OF GAY BISHOP FOR INAUGURAL PRAYER 16 January 2009 (Edited by DCB) – New Evangelical’s favourite son, Rick Warren, has “applauded the President-elect this week for also inviting the openly gay Episcopal Bishop V. Gene Robinson to pray at the inaugural opening ceremony.” Warren said Obama “has again demonstrated his genuine commitment to bringing all Americans of goodwill together in search of common ground.” Obama according to Warren has a “desire to be the president of every citizen.” It will come as no surprise in the months ahead to hear Warren accepts the marriage of sodomites! Sodomite Robinson said his prayer “will not be a Christian prayer, and I won’t be quoting Scriptures or anything like that.” (1) God would not hear Robinson’s prayer anyway unless it was one of repentance and (2) who knows what corrupt version he would have used. Oh, by the way the New York Times reported that Robinson’s sodomite partner was invited by “the Obama team to join him in several inaugural events”.  It seems Obama is all things to all people!

(Edited by DCB) - Many church fellowships have in place a means by which a church may “find” a preacher. The General Association of Regular Baptists (GARBC) has such a scheme.  The GARBC web site says their “pastoral search and placement assistance facilitates contacts between pastoral candidates and churches, and provides counsel for churches and pastors in transition.” It was interesting to read the information the GARBC desired the church to submit when seeking a pastor. One of the questions asked was:

·       an indication of church preferences in areas such as Bible versions, counseling philosophy, education of children, or congregational music

Without being too nit picking this question says a lot. This editor was saved and

grew up in a GARBC church. Back in those “olden” days the only Bible used was the King James Bible, the majority of counselling was done in the pulpit through the preaching of the Word, and the music was simply a song leader leading the congregation in singing the old hymns of the faith. However, times have changed and so have churches. Now it isn’t Biblical principles the church follows but PREFERENCES! Should the Word of God be a preference or a conviction? The versions must be different or one would not have a PREFERENCE, and being different means they cannot be the same. The tried and tested King James Bible’s underlying Greek text is the Textus Receptus. In 1881 Westcott and Hort produced a doctored Greek New Testament that differed from the Textus Receptus in over 8,000 places and of these 356 affect Bible doctrine.[1] That doctored text is the one these new versions are based! Now, should the Word of God be left to PREFERENCE?! What about congregational music? If a church has a preference for country western, hip hop, jazz, hard metal, rock and roll, or traditional church music is it just left to PREFERENCE? Is congregational music just a preference or does God have something to say about the music His churches should be singing? In 1John 2:15, 16 we read “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” James 4:4 “...know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God?” whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Most of what is passed upon the churches today as “worship music” falls under the condemnation of these verses. Perhaps this is why the USA has the new President it has.
