Dear Prayer Partners,
Psalm 92: 14 “They shall
still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing.”
C. H. Spurgeon in the Treasury of David said “Blessed be the Lord for
this! Because even to hoar hairs he is the I AM, who made his people, he
therefore bears and carries them.” Praise the Lord for His goodness even
to those of us getting a little wee bit more up there in years!
Our health has been
pretty good but recently David had spots appear in his right eye so he got
on the internet and discovered he had what are called floaters and flashes.
Floaters are “Small specks or clouds moving in your field of vision…” The
flashes occur “When the vitreous gel inside your eye rubs or pulls on the
retina” and you see what look “like flashing lights or lightning streaks.”
David made an appointment with the optometrist and an exam confirmed he had
these. The optometrist said to come back in a week which David did. After
another exam he was told to wait another month and then return for another
examination. Instead of waiting we thought it best to get a second opinion
as this condition can in certain cases lead to blindness. We made an
appointment with an ophthalmologist for that second opinion. The
ophthalmologist’s written report said the “R posterior detachment seems
complete” and that “no retinal breaks seen” and “no peripheral pre-disposing
retinal lesions.” The report concluded by saying that all was well “but
warned of future dangerous symptoms” and that it will eventually occur in
the left eye. David was told that if any new floaters appeared or if the
flashes occurred more regularly to make another appointment right away.
Well, so much for being in fairly good health.
During the first
three weeks of January we had a large bush fire burning north of us. We
could see the clouds of smoke from our house and the smell was very strong.
There was good news in the local newspaper the 24th of January
which read “The bushfire north of Dubbo is now officially contained, with
secure lines all the way around the perimeter.” The person in charge was
also quoted as saying they are still looking at a few hot spots which will
“keep popping up for days to come until we get some decent rain.”
Praise the Lord He is in charge!
Please continue to
pray for our radio outreach. Our Sunday programme, The Gospel Hour continues
the one hour slot but we have extended our Friday programme, Cross Talk, one
half hour; now 1.30pm to 4pm. One lady told us the folk in a retirement
village in town listened to us each week plus there would be many others
listening to the programmes in the village and surrounding area. We urge you
to continue praying for the Lord’s working in hearts as the Gospel is
proclaimed via this media.
We would also ask
that you continue to pray for the salvation of: Bob and Elizabeth, Lorraine,
Mark, and Ian. Then there is the continued need for prayer for our spiritual
growth and for Jon and Lynne, Jim and Margaret as well. All of us must seek
to be growing “in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour
Jesus Christ” 2Peter 3:18.
The truth of
1Peter 5:8 has become apparent to us again with the news of another
independent Baptist pastor falling into immorality. Not only is this pastor,
his wife and children affected but the church family and community as well.
This sin will travel faster through the community than all the sermons this
preacher has ever preached! Oh, how we must “Be sober, be vigilant;
because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking
whom he may devour.”
We again thank
each of our churches and individuals for their continued support in praying and
giving. “Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present
you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy” Jude
1:24. Keep looking up!!
Serving the risen and soon
coming Saviour,
David and Pam Bennett, Titus
