OCTOBER, 2001

Dear Prayer Partners,

James 4:14 "Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." The reality of this verse was played out in the 11th September tragedy in New York City and the Pentagon. Most if not all who entered the WTC and the Pentagon 11th September did not imagine they would be leaving this life and entering eternity that fateful morning. Neither do we know what lies ahead for us. Are you prepared to "meet thy God?" The same week the terrorists hit the WTC and the Pentagon our son, Jonathan, was wed to Lynne Mercer. On Saturday 15th September Jonathan and Lynne were united in matrimony. The wedding went well with David performing the ceremony. Of course the bride looked beautiful in the wedding dress she made herself. She is a seamstress like her mother in-law. The following Monday, 17th September, Jonathan and Lynne flew to Hawaii for a one-week honeymoon. They are now back and getting settled into real life. Our youngest son and child, Matthew, flew over to be best man. He was here for only two weeks but it was still hard to say goodbye at the Sydney airport. He was a little nervous in flying but anxious to get back to Iowa and his family. Alyson is expecting their second child the last part of October.

The 16th September we had many visitors in the morning service that stayed over after the wedding. Many were from our former work in Sydney. Jonathan also had a friend and his wife from Griffith, NSW stay the weekend and attend the service. They are both unsaved and this was their second time to attend a service for which we praise the Lord. Romans 10:17 "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Another one of the visitors was a young man (Adam Connelly) who was saved under our ministry in Sydney when he was twelve. Adam grew up in our Sunday school, Awana, and church. He was also Matthew's best friend. David also had Adam's father's funeral when Adam was fourteen years old. Adam emailed David a few days after going back to Sydney. He wrote, "How fantastic it was to hear you preach again. I have missed it so much. Having come back to Sydney and a fairly mundane message I feel as though I was spoiled in my childhood." To say the least t

Due to the tragedy in New York City Pastor Alan Brown, his wife, and his parents canceled their trip to Australia. His church is in Parsippany, New Jersey, which is not far from New York City. Many people in Parsippany commute to the City for work. Pastor Brown emailed saying "We have several people associated with our church and school that either work in or near the WTC. Some escaped after the WTC collapsed, and some were supposed to be in the WTC, but were late or some other reason that the Lord arranged to protect them. We have two families that are members of our church that are missing family members."

Our pastor at Evangel Baptist, Rev. Peter Van Kleeck, is still scheduled to be here with his wife 20th October. Being so close to the nation's capital Evangel has several that work in the Pentagon. Pastor Van Kleeck wrote, "God was faithful to preserve the military and civilian workers of Evangel Baptist Church out of the Pentagon tragedy. Some were on the opposite side of the complex and one friend of the church was two windows down from the explosion."

Right now we are still planning to be back in the states next year. Again we send our schedule for your prayers. We are sure airline prices will increase so we urge you to pray for the needed funds.
