February - March 2009

Dear Prayer Supporters,

The Daily Telegraph for the 6th of February 2009 had the article BUCKLE UP FOR THE HEATWAVE, NSW. In part it said “NOT even the plains of Africa or the deserts of the Middle East will be as hot as NSW on Sunday. The state will become the hottest place on the planet, with the current heatwave sending temperatures soaring to 47C (117F).” Reading the article made us think of what the Word of God says in Revelation 16:8 - 11 “And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. 9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory. 10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain. 11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.”  This is certainly a display of man’s hardness of heart toward their Creator!

Hebrews 12:2 “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Our prayer is that some of those with whom we speak will look unto the Lord Jesus Christ by faith as their Saviour.  In January we had three hospital visits. One was a 72 year old lady, Thelma, who had one of her breasts removed due to cancer. The other was Bess, a lady of 94. We visited Bess once at Dubbo base hospital but she was not really alert to a very long visit. The second time we visited her she was at the Catholic Lourdes hospital in Dubbo receiving physical therapy. We know both ladies through Pam’s Wednesday sewing class.  Both are unsaved so we would ask that you might remember them before the Lord concerning their trusting Christ.

January was a month for visitors to our home. The second full week of January saw Rosemary and Shereen make their annual visit. Rosemary was a former neighbour in Sydney who last August lost her husband, John, to a heart attack. Rosemary’s son, now grown and married, attended Awana and Sunday school but neither John nor Rosemary attended regularly except for special occasions. Even after Rosemary made a profession of faith during a Bible study with Pam her life never really reflected a living faith in Christ as her Saviour. Shereen is their adopted 13 year old daughter from Fiji. She was just a baby when adopted and has been attending a Catholic school the past three years. Shereen has never professed faith in Christ. We pray their visits will be a time when the Lord might work in their hearts unto salvation.

The last four days of January and the first five days of February we had a husband and wife from one of our supporting churches in the mid-west with us. David knows the wife through attending a one room country school over fifty years ago with her. Those days at that one room country school are now a long time ago and yet they sometimes seem like yesterday. Does that come with age? Pam took her to the Wednesday sewing class where she met the unsaved ladies that God has laid on Pam’s heart. Fortunately for them they left before the weather reached into the mid-forties Celsius and they are now home in the mid-west where the weather is much cooler.

Please continue to pray for us as we seek to witness of the saving power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the unsaved that the Lord brings our way. The radio programmes continue to be our choice avenue for getting the gospel out. Please pray for this ministry that the Lord has given us that God will graciously and mightily open hearts that will attend “unto the things which were spoken of” God in His Word.

Thinking of the unsaved David was speaking to a young lady the other day that said she had a headache. When David enquired as to why she might have the headache she informed him it was from inhaling helium at a party the night before.  David does not see this girl that often but she is just one of the many with whom we have contact that need Christ.

The construction of Jim and Margaret’s house in Bathurst began near the end of January and should be finished and ready for them to move into sometime in May. Please pray they will get involved in the independent Baptist work there. This is another setback for the work here but we know it is “God that giveth the increase” and the decrease!

Again we want to thank you for your faithful support in prayer and finances. May we always remember to “...offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name” Hebrews 13:15.
