September - October, 2010

Dear Friends in the Gospel,

Genesis 8:22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.Global warming? We think not. This has been a very cold and wet winter. September the first is the first day of spring and the first two days felt like winter but by the third day of September one could feel it was spring with the temperature during the day in the high 60s.

Here in Australia we had a Federal election last month but so far the outcome is a hung Parliament as neither majour party has a clear majority. They both need 76 seats and they both now have 73. There are three independents that can throw the government either way. However, the Greens Party will hold the balance of power in the Senate after next July and they have already signed an agreement to align themselves with the Labor Party (socialistic party). There are some real challenges ahead especially for Christians. As one conservative Australian writer said in comparing present day Australia with present day Great Britain the two main issues facing us are the rise of aggressive secularism and radical Islam.

The Greens Party of course is in favour of same sex marriage but against prayer in Parliament. That says a lot! In the first week of September the New South Wales government voted 46 to 44 to allow same-sex couples to adopt children. Our local MP, who voted in favour of this bill, said A vote to allow gay couples to adopt children is not about same-sex relationships but about equality. This same MP is quoted having said I listened to the religious organisations but its not a mother and father, white-picket fence family norm anymore. So the traditional family of a mother and father is out and the abnormal is in! Sadly some of those MPs voting in favour of this bill included supposedly conservatives. That is the state of affairs here and as our nation moves further away from the Bible it is just a matter of time before same sex marriages will be legally accepted as just another type of family.

In spite of those things just mentioned the call to win souls is as important today as ever and has never been rescinded. Our prayer is that we will be as faithful as an Australian sailor who lived a very degenerate life before his conversion, by the name of Mr. Ganor. One day he faced a deep crisis in his life and a shipmate who knew the Lord led him to Christ. His life was so transformed by the power of Christ that that he pledged to God he would witness to at least 10 people every day for the rest of his life. He did this without exception for the next 40 years on George St. in Sydney. He had a straightforward approach asking the questions, Excuse me, are you a Christian? and If you died tonight would you go to heaven? He was the personification of one committed to the task which is the same for all us who claim the name of Christ, and that is share the Gospel.

Although he was often rejected and in 40 years never heard of one person accepting Christ, he was unwavering in his witness for the Lord Jesus Christ! However, two weeks before his death, he received a visit from a Pastor from London, England. Over the past 3 years, this pastor had travelled the world preaching the Gospel in America, parts of England, Australia and India. During that time this pastor had received 12 reports from full-time Christian workers such as chaplains, pastors and missionaries that had come to the Lord through Mr Ganor's simple witness on George Street. Through his faithfulness literally thousands had come to know the Lord. Perhaps we will never see or hear the results of handing out a tract, giving a verbal witness, or putting a New Testament in a letter box this side of glory but on that Day it will be revealed! May you and we be found faithful as 1Corinthians 4:2 says Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

Ambassadors for Christ,

David and Pam Bennett
